    Title:
A European Road Trip ... What an Experience!
    Entry:

    Hi All,

Jim Gurowka, VP of International business development, and I recently returned from a trip to Switzerland and Germany.  I will focus more on Switzerland in this particular entry, but the entire region is an important part of our vibrant and growing global community.

    More:

Jim and I visited with 6 multi-national companies, potential partners, the prestigous St. Gallen's University which kindly helps sponsor the Swiss Chapter, and, the IMA Swiss Chapter at their second annual meeting celebration (see photo).  In moving from being a global association to truly serving global members in an exemplary manner, it is important to learn first hand the local culture, educational system, etc. as a prelude to identifying and serving target markets (this is CMA-speak at its best!!).

I learned so much on this trip, and believe that there are great opportunities for IMA to expand the profession in Europe.  The Swiss Chapter is a committed, inspired and passionate group of volunteers who truly wish to make a difference - isn't that what volunteerism is all about, whether it be in Bern or in Boston, in Geneva or in Green Bay?  Special thanks to board members Nina Michels-Kim, CMA, founder of the Swiss chapter and organizer of this trip, chapter president David Bancroft, CMA from J&J, Hany Morcos, president-elect, CMA from Phillip Morris and Dr. Oscar Treyer from St. Gallen's University for their service to IMA.

By the way, the IMA management team includes in its core values an owner of the business mentality.  As such, we view ourselves as having a responsibility to managing membership funds wisely for the betterment of the profession which has resulted in two consecutive years of surpluses and a rock-solid balance sheet.  Two years ago, we instituted a new travel policy which eliminates first class flights of any duration unless there are special medical or health needs.  While having members in 120+ countries requires travel, we need to remember that managing costs effectively and efficiently is what great CMAs do for their organizations.  Why should IMA be any different?

As always, I look forward to your thoughts.  Keep well.

Good effort by IMA for its travel policy as we always have interest in cost control. Hope to see you in Dubai summit. Babu I. Razack
