      Hi all,

I'm really concerned about the transition exam (T exam), please correct me if im wrong.

      My info from Hock says:

"The Transition Exam is 2 hours long and will consist of four 30-minute essay questions that will
test the subject matter from both Parts 1 and 2 of the new 2-Part CMA exams, but only to the
extent that those topics were covered under the old 4-Part syllabus. Topics not covered by the
old 4-Part syllabus will not be tested."

Is that right, or we should study the material of the new two parts.

      Regards

      Hi all:

I have sent an email to IMA regarding to the topics that would be covered in the transition exam and what I understand is that the old 4 parts study materials should be enough for it as those new topics in the 2 parts exam would not be tested in the T exam.

However, I would like to get a piece of advise on how to study the essay questions.  Should I go back to part 2 and 3 and redo all the MC questions again, or should I go straight ahead to the essay and study along while I am doing them?

      Thank you

      Kent

       hi,Kent

do you mean that T test scope only included the topics that cross  both new 2 parts exam and old 4-part  syllabus?

those topics included in old 4 part but not in new 2 parts and  topics included in new 2 parts but not inclucdec in old 4 parts  would not be tested?

or we need to review all the topics covered by old 4 parts ?

      thank you!

      Hi Nawar,

As far as I remember and I read somewhere probably in the FAQ questions for the new format, it says that the Transition Coverage will be taken from new 2-Part programs.

      Please validate and confirm.

      Thank you,

      Walter

      Hello Walter,

Actually I go back to FAQ questios, and you are right.

Do you want to study it all from the new materials, to me i intend to study the old materials, and cover

the new topics from the new materials. Let's together highlight the new issues in the T-exam which isn't

covered in the old materials, waiting you contribution and feedback. Here the attachment

      Hi Wentao:

Below is quoted from my email communication between an IMA advisor:

The Transition Exam will consist of four 30-minute essay questions,
which test the content of exam parts 1, 2 and 3 of the current four-part
exam.  These questions will not test any content that is new to the new
exam curriculum, nor will they test any content from the four-part exam,
which is not carrying over to the new exam.  In other words, it will
test content that is common to both exams, such as budgeting, cost
management, performance measurement, etc.  Candidates who plan to sit
for the Transition Exam should study the sections and topics from parts
1, 2 and 3 of the current four-part exam curriculum, which are carrying
over to the new two-part exam.  They should also spend time learning and
practicing how to effectively answer essay response questions.

So based on above reply, old part 1, 2, 3, and ethic should be enough for the T exam.  Hope this is clear.

Yes , what Kent is saying the right thing because I receieved the same message from Hock, but the problem we have to analyze the new syllabus one by one in order to study for this exam... for example topics like marketing ,information system

Financial accounting and reporting , quantitative methods, ecomonomics, global will not be tested only to the extent covered in

the new system like : Market structrue,Forecasting, elasticity in part1... cash flow, foreign exchanges, accounting changes effect in part2 etc.. so you have to analyze the new LOS.

      Hi Kent / Khaled,

We have to consult the exam coverage from the proper authority which is from IMA itself who regulated the exam. Because on the FAQ they had rolled-out months back, it says that transition coverage will be taken from new 2-parts exam but it is not clearly mentioned that only topics carrying over from old to new program will be tested.

      Regards,

      Walter

The answer to this question is simple: Avoid the transition exam if you made it all the way to passing test 3. You will have a better chance at passsing an exam that you already know it's format then starting a brand new one. I hate to be a lone wolf in this forum but, I have to tell you the truth. I just passed part 4 of the so called old exam. I have always vocified my displeasure against the new exam eliminating managerial topics that tell the difference between a CMA and CPA. 2 can't never be equal to 4

I got my information from one of IMA member services representative, her name is Narnesha L. O'Neill.  Maybe someone can raise the concern again and see if we can get a consistent answer just to be sure.

Hi all , please find below the answer from Hock regarding my query about Transition exam :

      Hello Khalid,

There are no Learning Outcome Statements for the Transition Exam. However, you can find the Learning Outcome Statements for it by looking at the new exam’s Learning Outcome Statements. I have attached that document. (Since you already have the CSO for the Transition Exam, I am not attaching that.)

For example, in Section E on the Transition Exam CSO, Financial Statement Analysis, the first item is "Basic Financial Statement Analysis." In order to know what is covered by that topic, you need to refer to the Learning Outcome Statements for the new Part 2 exam, to the subtopic there for "Basic Financial Statement Analysis." You will see a lot of external financial reporting topics there that were covered in Part 2 under the old exam format. Any of those topics listed there in the new format LOSs that were also covered on the old format exam are subject to being tested on the Transition Exam as part of Financial Statement Analysis. So the Financial Statement Analysis section of the Transition Exam will not simply cover the topics that were covered in the old Part 1 exam section on Financial Statement Analysis. It will cover anything in the Financial Statement Analysis Section of the new exam that was also tested on the old format exam in any exam part.

You will need to do an analysis like that for every topic on the Transition Exam CSO in order to know what to study for the exam. This is something that we are advising candidates to do themselves so that they are comfortable and familiar with the contents of the exam and the relevant materials. Further, because the guidance of the content outline is somewhat broad, we do not want to unintentionally omit any topics.

No topic that is new to the new format exam will be tested on the Transition Exam, however. So if you see any topics on the new format exam LOSs under one of the Transition Exam topics that were not on the old format LOSs, you can disregard those.

If you have any questions about any of the topics you are studying for, please do not hesitate to send me an email. Or, you can post your questions in our website forums, and everyone can benefit from the answer.

      Khaled,

"No topic that is new to the new format exam will be tested on the Transition Exam, however. So if you see any topics on the new format exam LOSs under one of the Transition Exam topics that were not on the old format LOSs, you can disregard those."

Based on the above statement, it was clearly stated that no new topics will be tested in Transition Exam. Actually, new topics in any sub-sections in the new 2-parts program were taken from Part 1-4 of the old programs. And what IMA did is to put together all relevant topics in one sections and modified the Main Topic Terminology like"International Finance". It seems this is new topic but if you look at the content this is taken from Part 1 (old program) under Global Business and some new topics under Financial Analysis were taken from External Financial Reporting (old program). Hence, effectively, no new major topics will be tested in Transition Exam.

Now, it is a matter on how you plan your study right at this early and have focus while studying and achieve your objectives.

      Regards,

       Walter

      Hi guys,

i've mailed the IMA, and they ensure the old 4 parts are enough.

They said:"You can use your current (“old”) materials to study".

Nawar, Yes you're right! But first thing you have to map out your coverage because the old programs are too broad to study. I am trying to mapping out the topics and sub-topics in order to determine which new topic is added in the topics/subtopics, which is taken from old program.

      Good luck to everyone!

      Hi guys,

Attached is the mapping. Please take note the ff:

Yellow color - means new topics/captions added in the main topic.

Gray color - might be deleted or could not be tested in the Transition Exam since it is not found in the section topics in the new program.

Green color - this topic is movement from the other section topics (old program) to the another section topics (new program).

      Please have your inputs.

Hope this will help to strategize your action as I will use the same to plan my action.

      Regards,

      Walter

      Thanks Walter,

so the grey and the yellow colors shouldn't be tested.

I suggest to link the T-exam topics with the old material topics, why should we care about the new topics?.

      Looking for your feedback.

      Regards

    • Walter Paraiso
posted March 22, 2010 by Walter Paraiso

      Nawar,

I had received email from Gleim and based on the email, the transition exam will test only what is common in both new and old programs. Hence, I presumed that the gray and yellow colors will not be tested considering the yellow colors are all new topics and gray colors (old topics) are not carried to the new program (Part 1&2).

So please validate also if all the yellow colors are all new topics and not part in the old program.

      Regards,
