    Title:
    Passed CMA part 3
    Content:

    Hi Guys,

I passed CMA part 3 in October. I was planning to take part 2 & 4 of  current program & finish it off. However If I switch on to the new program I got to take only one exam which is part 1 of new program.

Guys please let me know your opinion too.

    Thanks

Assuming your main priority is to pass with the least effort, I would look at the new and old curricula and see if which one will make you learn the most new material. I had to do very little to prepare for Part 2 because I had recently covered most of it in college. From what I can tell, Part 1 of the new program will have more topics which aren't covered in a typical accounting degree. So for me, it would have required a lot more work to take the new Part 1. It might be different for you depending on your educational and career background.

I think your decsion would depend on the amount of preparation you have already done for parts 2 and 4. You have until December 31, 2010 to pass these parts and attain certification.

I am preparing to sit for part 2 this February in the old curriculum (but this will be my first exam). My plan is to pass part 2 in the old program followed by part 2 in the new program. The decision you face seems to me to be more difficult the more time you have invested in the "old" program.

Good luck whatever path you choose!

I am just now starting to study for Part 3 old exam. Which materials did you use to help with your studying?

After part 3 exam in the old format, I will transfer into the new program and take Part 1 of the new format, as I believe most of that content is similar to the old part 2?

You could always take part 2 in the old and when you pass it then you would have to take the transition exam, which I would assume might be easier than the old part 4.

      Good Luck!

I studied the Gleim book chapter by chapter and answered the multiple choice questions as I went.  After finishing the entire book, I would take practice tests using the test-prep cds.  I would take LOTS of practice tests to review what I learned in the book and get extra practice on the areas I was weak.  I hope this helps.

Thank you Miranda for the formulas.  They will be most helpful.  I was hoping to take Part 3 by the end of February, but my schedule got in the way and I don't feel I would have enough time to be prepared enough.  This will be my first exam.

Good luck to all!  If anyone wants to study for Part 3 together, let me know.

      Thanks,
      Kristy

      Hello,

I would concentrate on passing part 2 by October, and then you can take the transition exam to complete certification. I believe you will have some time to pass it, at least two years.

I would not worry about parts 1 or 4 as they have no value in transitioning to the new program.

Since the first exams for the new program are not until May, we have no idea how difficult they are, so I would concentrate on part 2 as there is some feedback on them available.

I am currently preparing for part three, and my test date is May 7. If all goes well I will take part two the end of October, then concentrate on the transition exam next year. I graduated in 97, so a lot of the material is not fresh in my mind. I chose the Hock material as it is more detailed. Gleim is more of a review. I am currently in the middle of section C, and am progressing. I don't know if I will pass, but I think I will have a good shot. It has been awhile since I have studied, and am finding it a challenge with my work, personal and home life...but I am getting through with about 6-8 hours of study per week. I will probably supplement the study by getting the Gleim CD practice tests as a supplement, Hock has exam sims as well...

Hock has some info and suggestions in dealing with the transition to the new exam on their site www.hockinternational.com.

Good luck with fulfilling your goals and becoming a CMA.

      Regards,

      Jeff

P.S. The excel spreadsheet with the formulas for part 3 is very helpful! Thanks to the person who posted the link.

If you are looking for the certificate, take Part 1 new format. if you are looking for knowledge especially looking forward to CPA, then take parts 2 and 4.

take care, part 2 is too long ( longer than the sum of parts 1 and 3) it's a great challenge.

I am like you, passed parts 1 and 3, and preparing part 2. but I know it's not a wise decision, but i  decided that, i recomment you to take part 1 new format.

Hello Everyone I am taking an online course starting this month to prepare for Part 3 in May or June and then plan on taking part 1 of the new program. Those of you that have passed part 3 can you tell me if you found it challenging and what did you study with. I want to know if this class from Boston University will be enough or i need to spend more $ for resources and how much a day should i be studying?

I have completed Part 1, 2 and 3 of CMA old syllabus (passed P3 yesterday). As I dont have enough time to prepare for Part 4, prefer to study for Transition exam. Anyone can advise me about Transition exam? Any study material available for this / how to prepare?
