    Hi IMA Members,

I hope you are well and keeping cool.

So what is NEW:  On Monday night, we launched our new website.  We listened to you, and delivered a website that is significantly more functional with clearer navigation.  And, it aligns nicely with our branding which allows for a clean, consistent and professional look for global members and customers (potential members).

What else is NEW ... A new Learning Center that allows users to more efficiently and effectively manage all of their courseware, whether it be CMA exam prep, on-going learning and/or CPE.

  • Technology and Innovation: The Dynamic Duo
Entry posted Jul 12 by Jeffrey ThomsonDistinguished Member

    Hello IMA Members,

If you thought Batman and Robin were the Dynamic Duo, in the world of management accounting, think again - Technology and Innovation are one of many dynamic duo's.

One of IMA's Core Values relates to Innovation.  Innovation is wiping the slate clean, envisioning the future, asking "why not" rather than asking "why", saying "tell me more" rather than "no way we can implement" a new, "out there" kind of idea.  Innovation can result in incremental improvements, but it can also transform the way a business serves its customers.

  • Back to Work after Baltimore ... A Good Thing?
Entry posted Jun 27 by Jeffrey ThomsonDistinguished Member

    Hi All,

So, as you know, we had a wonderful annual conference and exposition in Baltimore - our 91st - which allowed us to learn, network, meet new and old friends alike, and demonstrate again the power in our global community.

With budget approval, we have moved quickly to fill vacant positions to continue on our global growth trajectory, including more headcount facing chapters/councils, corporate development, CMA exam grading (with more than 23,000 active CMA candidates, there are plenty of exams to grade!) and, we officially approved a business plan to expand our European presence.  More on that in later blogs and IMA communications.

Many of us got off the train from Baltimore after 14 hour days and went right back to work.  Is this a good thing??? .... more to follow --->

  • Baltimore Blast!1

    Hi All,

Well, we are wrapping up our 91st annual conference and so far, our attendees from 16 countries have told us that it has been a blast!  We accountants and financial professionals in business define blast as great learning, great networking, meeting new and "old" friends, going home inspired.

The Annual Dinner was inspiring and focused on IMA's strongest and most sustaining asset:  its world-wide community of volunteers.

PLEASE give us ideas on how to improve the Annual Conference and Exposition as we plan for Orlando in 2011 and beyond.  This is an event FOR MEMBERS and your feedback is important to us.

Now, back to work.  We have much to do at IMA to grow our association and achieve the future that we have envisioned.

    Thanks,

        Jeff

  • Baltimore the Beautiful ....

    Hello All,

We are about to officially start our 91st Annual Conference and Exposition here in sunny Baltimore by the beautiful harbor.  Actually, the conference started on Saturday with pre-conference workshops.  Also, on Saturday, the IMA Global Board of Directors approved our budget and four-year rolling strategic plan.

This plan and associated budget/funding will enable IMA - our entire stakeholder community - to realize a bright future that together we have envisioned.

I will keep you updated during the week.  If any of you remember my Mario the Barber blog from a few weeks ago, I missed going to Mario (and seeing the NY Mets try to play baseball) yesterday because of business commitments - so,..., I need a haircut, Mario!!

Thanks, I will keep you informed during the week for all of the learning, networking, and meeting of new and old friends!

  • A European Road Trip ... What an Experience!1
Entry posted May 28 by Jeffrey ThomsonDistinguished Member

    Hi All,

Jim Gurowka, VP of International business development, and I recently returned from a trip to Switzerland and Germany.  I will focus more on Switzerland in this particular entry, but the entire region is an important part of our vibrant and growing global community.

  • Going Global .... It starts with building lasting...2
Entry posted May 17 by Jeffrey ThomsonDistinguished Member

    Hi All,

I am about to embark on a short trip to Europe to meet with members, chapters, corporations, universities and potential partners to advance IMA's growth strategy.  I am the type that enjoys travel and meeting with members around the world, but the minute I leave home I miss my business colleagues here in Montvale, my kids, my grand-kids, my doggies and (of course!), my spouse.

Quite the paradox!  Much like the challenges of being a true global association, not just in spirit but in actions.

  • Time is Running Short .... Step Up to the Plate!!

    Hi All,

OK, you may be saying enough with the baseball references in regard to our annual conference in Baltimore just a few short weeks away.... but we can not help ourselves and urge you to not only step up to the plate, but swing for the fences and take advantage of all of the value that our annual conference delivers!!

  • The Power of Community ... Engage with Your Local Chapter100%
Entry posted Apr 27 by Jeffrey ThomsonDistinguished Member

    Hi All,

I just returned from the Carolina Council's professional development event, which also included visits to a local university.  In a small way, I hope I made a difference on the business front -  by sharing with the local chapters the great progress that IMA is making in its growth strategy (I actually gave a somewhat technical talk on Enterprise Risk Management), and on the behavioral front - by demonstrating in actions and not just words that IMA Global staff cares about our volunteers at the local chapter level.

But this is not meant to be about me.... it is about the power of the community and the wonderful benefits that "accrue" from engaging with your local chapter/council and having a positive volunteer or member experience ..... yes, THE POWER OF THE COMMUNITY AND ENGAGING LOCAL AMBASSADORS ...

    Hello All,

So, on my way to Queens New York this past weekend to watch my pitiful NY Mets play baseball I got my haircut at a barbershop where Mario works... I live in New Jersey, a good 90 minutes away from Mario by car, so why during baseball season do I visit Mario vs. getting my hair cut in the more convenient locations in New Jersey???  Read on for the dramatic details....!
